WINDHAVEN FARM
Windhaven Farm was founded over 50 years ago in 1971 by Pete and Marilyn Edwards. Windhaven Farm produces row crops (corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat, hay and even peanuts years ago) and beef cattle.
Here is our story .....
For many years, we raised Black Angus and sold feeder calves at various livestock markets. So how did we migrate to Red Angus? In 2002, Marilyn decided she wanted a few Red Angus cows for the pasture beside the house. She thought they were pretty to the eye and she liked their mild temperment. Well .... we gradually began adding more Red Angus to our herd by retaining the heifers for breeding. We also continued to purchase a few Red Angus cows and we used registered Red Angus bulls. In addition, we have done some AI breeding. Today, we have about 200 head of Red Angus.
In 2008, we decided to diversify a little and try a new venture ... selling our beef directly to the consumer. With the help of our daughter and husband (Amy and Kevin), we opened our farm market and attended local farmer's markets. Currently, we sell our beef directly to consumers as well as a few restaurants (i.e. Harper's Table, and Blue Point), and stores. We slaughter on average 72 cattle per year.
In 2023, we started to cross our Red Angus cows with a Wagyu bull. We are now offering Red Angus and Waygu/Angus Cross beef!
The business truly requires the help of all of our family, whether it's working in our farm market that is open to the public on the 2nd and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 9:00 - 1:00, making deliveries, feeding the cows hay and silage, weaning the calves, or getting the cows back in the pasture when they want to roam. Our other daughter (Stephanie) and grandchildren, Kaleb & Kaylee, help out as well.
We enjoy this life on the farm. It's our heritage and we enjoy sharing it with our children and grandchildren. Two of our grandchildren were actively involved in 4-H and showed Red Angus heifers and steers at several shows each year. It's an invaluable experience to grow up on a farm .. no better way to teach responsibility, stewardship and the value of hard work and rewards.
We hope you can visit us soon ... we look forward to meeting new people and sharing our little "piece of heaven" to others.
